Installed as part of Studios Without Walls, Gling Gló Igloo consisted of a plastic igloo (5 to 6 feet in diameter x 5 feet high) made entirely of PETE #1 recycled plastic cookie tubs. The igloo rested on a semi-spherical steel structure, with two openings.
This was somewhat interactive piece, and the public was encouraged to attach small jingle bells to the outside dome. The word Gling-Gló means Ding-Dong in Icelandic. The igloo was intended to serve as a large sounding bell meant to raise awareness about our disappearing ice caps and compromised oceans more and more filled with plastic debris. In addition, the public was given small LED lights to be placed inside each cookie tub to create a glowing igloo during the opening night.
